Our Community Helping Red Cross

When it comes to people helping people, Americans have the proverbial corner on the market. Helping is such an integral part of our culture that many Americans actively seek out opportunities to extend a helping hand to their fellow citizens. These acts of individual altruism are the lifeblood of American Red Cross. Though Red Cross was established by Congressional charter, it does not operate as a public organization funded by tax dollars. Everything the Red Cross is able to accomplish is a direct result of people helping people through acts of heartfelt generosity including giving blood, volunteering and donating money. Though instances of giving spike in response to high-profile disasters, Red Cross Greater Steuben Chapter is always ready to respond thanks to the local volunteers, blood donors and financial givers that support for our work regularly.

  • Our Board of Directors and committees of the board govern the organization, providing insight, guidance and hands-on help.
  • Disaster Volunteers are the first responders when local citizens experience disasters such as fires or floods, ensuring that the practical and emotional needs of the victims are met.
  • Blood Donors and volunteers who help at blood drives are the reason our area hospitals have an adequate and safe supply of life-saving blood to meet patient needs.
  • Financial donors empower Red Cross to train disaster volunteers, provide recovery resources to victims of disaster, teach life-saving skills to citizens, organize blood drives and help people learn how to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
