How They Help Financial donors are crucial to Red Cross Greater Steuben Chapter’s ability to help our community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Though established by Congressional Charter, Red Cross is not a publicly funded organization. We rely on the contributions of caring citizens to advance our mission. Financial donors empower Red Cross to train disaster volunteers, provide recovery resources to victims of disaster, teach life-saving skills to citizens, organize blood drives and help people learn how to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Last year, 2,877 donors contributed over $700,000 to Red Cross, providing the critical resources needed to advance our mission. (Note: This was an exceptional year in that ¾ of these gifts went to assist Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.)
Particularly beneficial are two community-driven auctions that annually attract hundreds of supporters and last year raised a combined total of $38,000 to support our chapter.
In addition, local funding organizations contributed over $35,000 in grants, further boosting Red Cross Greater Steuben Chapter’s capacity to deliver services.
